Animal charity receives flooring donation

An local flooring store has donated flooring which has enabled an Edinburgh animal charity to provide a new demonstration room at its centre.

Animal charity receives flooring donation

An historic Edinburgh dog and cat rescue centre which needs to raise £2 million each year to provide its services has been left ‘floored’ by its latest donation.

The Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has received £385 of flooring from Flooring Superstore, which is based on the Seafield Road Retail Park.

The charity is using the vinyl flooring in a new room at its centre, also in Seafield Road, which is being used for educational talks and demonstrations.
Gillian Graham, Fundraising Manager at the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, said: “We were founded in 1883, making us one of Scotland’s oldest animal welfare organisations.

“We receive no Government or public funding and the Home now costs £2.4 million a year to operate, which enables us to rescue, reunite and rehome lost, stray and abandoned dogs and cats, providing them with food, shelter and veterinary care while they are with us.

“Every penny we raise makes such a difference, so to have to buy flooring ourselves would have meant redirecting funds which could have been used to help a cat or dog in need.

“The flooring which has been donated is being used in a new educational room where schools or members of the public can visit to listen to talks, handle animals and learn all about animal welfare.

“We would like to thank Flooring Superstore for their kind gesture and support.”

Flooring Superstore is owned by Connection Flooring, a family-run business with 16 stores across the UK and a 17th opening in Crewe in December. The Edinburgh store opened in February 2018.

Edinburgh store manager Greig Anderson said: “We are pleased to have been able to support a charity on our own doorstep which has so much history and does amazing work helping lost or abandoned pets in Edinburgh and the surrounding area.

“As a family-run business we are very much aware of our corporate social responsibility and like to give something back to the communities which support us by visiting our stores.”

As well as Edinburgh, there are also Flooring Superstores in Birmingham, Swindon, Newport, 2 x York, Coventry, Thurrock, Bracknell, Birtley, Havant, Keighley, Milton Keynes, Bristol, Newton Abbot and Stockport.

People who visit the stores can choose flooring from three brands owned by Connection Retail – Flooring Superstore, Direct Wood Flooring and Grass Direct.
The stores sell carpets and a huge range of other flooring, such as laminate and luxury vinyl tiles and the UK’s largest selection of artificial grass. The latter is designed to meet the growing demand from householders for artificial, rather than real, grass.
